You heard the story of the German woman somehow. Did she write down her experiences or share them in some other way? Most young people have no idea when VE Day was or what it was. You can't really blame them since they are living in their own history. When I was 21, an equivalent time period for me would have been the turn of the century, the Gay Ninties as in 1890s. Even though I'm a history buff and have a degree in the subject, the period is still a little obscure for me.

While visiting a relative in a retirement community, I met a man who was a famous builder of quality brick homes in the Pittsburgh area. His company had built the house I had grown up in, and thousands of others during the post war boom. He had lost his mind. It was embarassing to talk to him. I'll never forget it, until I do.
