You don't mention the military. It is a way for people from any background to enter the government. They even give you a place to live. I was traveling on a government dime and operating millions of dollars worth of lethal equipment when I was a teenager. When you ride on the Metro, VRE, or MARC, there are so many military people in their camo uniforms carrying expensive electronics.
