You are just alking about the art being consumed by the zombies staring into the black mirror all the time. I have a collection of original oil paintings, ceramics, and other art objects that I have been buying for over thirty years. I knew every artist that produced the work, which did not cost a fortune but cost enough that I have serious investment in it. There is a whole world of skilled artists that sell out of their studios, small galleries, online, or at arts festivals that are being ignored here. Even small towns have art scenes! The whole purpose of the First Fridays in virtually every city in the country is to sell unique, original art directly from the artist to a patron. My patronage helps the artists to live, continue to work, and make more art. I've even bought several works from shows in coffee shops and bars, because I liked them and that is the most important thing. Will the art I bought be valuable some day? I certainly won't live to see it, but in the meantime I live in an art gallery consisting of work that I hand picked, and that is pretty swell. If I did pick a winner my descendants will be singing my praises, and if I didn't they'll end up in a thrift store. I won't be around in any case.
