Yes, I know of the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. That’s where they produce all of the luxury and performance brands of Italian automobiles and motorcycles like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Ducati, all privately owned companies producing products for the economic 1%. I’m a bicycle man myself, and the Italians make some incredible bikes but not in Emilia Romagna because they are all about stepping on that gas pedal. The region is also home to some of the best food and wine in Europe, and many of the farms producing that provender are in fact co-operatives. If I ever decided to start mass producing artisinal Northern Italian wine, cheeses, or processesed meats I’d consider starting a co-operative with a bunch of Northern Italian people myself. And I’ve heard of the Basque Mondragon co-operative too. It was started by a Catholic priest. It always takes one special person to make things work, like Enzo Ferrari. Of course if you believe that, then collectivism is a bunch of bullshit. If everyone is equal no one can demonstrate how great their ideas are, or how great they are. Everyone is condemned to the mediocrity of the collective. If you need your hand held through life then that would probably be a good thing. If you lived in Bologna or Parma and had that good wine to drink, and the food, and the stylishly dressed Italian women to look at, it might not matter.
