When you actually talk to the homeless, it becomes immediately apparent that they are not living on the street for economic reasons. Most of them have burned exery bridge to a normal life. In 1950, right before deinstitutionalization, there were over 577,000 people locked up in mental hospitals in the USA, and now there are 550,000 homeless people? It's amazing how those numbers line up with each other. Those old state hospitals were snake pits where non-violent people were forcibly locked up and warehoused. The had lobotomies, shock therapy, and ice baths used on them. We are not going back to that, so get used to the homeless.
