What would be the point of putting a convicted murderer on a trillion dollar spaceship? And if you had read the article or knew even a little bit about the Solar System or astronomy in general, you would know that the can would not be passing any stars. They would look exactly the same from the day the ship left Earth until the convict died, except for the Sun which would shrink to a dot like the other stars.

If you offered a trip on a spaceship to the edge of the Solar System, there would be thousands of volunteers, and all of them would be nuts and completely unsuited to being on the crew of a spaceship. Most of them would be fleeing something, primarily their own fucked up life. Normal, high functioning people have family, friends, and other things on Earth they are deeply attached to.
