We seem to be remembering The Jetsons differently. As I recall, George Jetson worked for Spacely Sprockets, and was supervised by a computer. His boss Cosmo Spacely was always threatening to fire him. Spacely Sprockets was in competition with Cogswell Cogs, and that created a lot of the plotlines of the series. The frequently malfunctioning labor saving gadgets were the main differences in that future, not the economy or the social structure.

I’ve bicycled around NYC dodging e-bike delivery riders before the crackdown on them. They’re a total menace. From my observations, most of them are recent immigrants, and cash money jobs like food delivery are the kinds of jobs that that recent immigrants do. I’ve known a fair few bicycle messengers, and they do it because they love it. They are living in the here and now, not in Orbit City.
