We really walked away from that in Afgahnistan. In 2001 there were a million children at most in Afghanistan going to primary school, and by 2013 it was 10.5 million, with 37% of them girls. During the NATO occupation the Taliban regularly blew up schools and killed teachers, and now they are running the education system and have once again closed it to females.
