These types of protests are not an appeal to reason or the use of scientific knowledge, but to emotion and the ego of the perpetrators. If people standing in the streets with signs, millions of posts on social media, and hundreds of thousands of articles in the MSM are not changing people's behavior, why would childish stunts like this? In the context of babies, Animal House, or the primate cage at the zoo, throwing food is pretty funny. "Look what these morons are doing." is not the response you want, but that is what this type of activism is producing, just like The Three Stooges.
