There is no debate culture in academe now, either because they all agree with each other or because academics are afraid of what would happen if they lost a public debate, even to someone from the same department. The Left always uses the terminology of conflict, as in they are always “fighting” for this or that, but they haven’t got the stomach for a public contest of ideas except when they are forced into an election debate, and the way those are structured is just like a collection of sound bites.
