There is ample evidence that Native North Americans lived lifeways that were defined by gender roles, and that men did the hunting, fishing, war making, religion, politics, and training of the young braves, and that the women did basically all of the other work including any agriculture. Kidnapping of women and children from other tribes to expand the bloodline was common, so women were essentially chattel. Men's social status was determined by their prowess in battle, since being a warrior was not some empty title.
