Some parts being the 90% of the country where it rains and riding in the rain sucks, and is much more dangerous on any bike. I've been a bicycle communter for many years, and the physical exertion and lack of infrastructure aren't the only problems. The weather is a huge one. People that stop commuting by bike because of cold, snow, ice, or even rain every day get out of the groove, and their tires go flat. I'm a bike nut and it has happened to me, The first time you ride it feels like your ass is on a cinder block. An automible is more comfortable no matter what the weather, and also requires less attention as to its operation. If you are on an e-bike on wet pavement and you start thinking about something besides riding it, you will eat shit eventually.
