The Suez Canal was closed from the 6 Day War in 1967, through the Yom Kippur War in 1973 when there was fighting on the canal itself, until 1975 when the USA fished all of the mines out of it. You know what? During that time shippers of the World figured out other ways to do things, and navies did too. Commerce marched on. The sideways container ship was a little hiccup compared to that, but again people figured things out because that's what they do.
