The primary reason why the concept of African philosophy as a discipline is unheard of is because sub-Saharan Africa was pre-literate before reading and writing was introduced by Europeans in the 19th Century. Along with the literacy came Europeans ideas. It's the same with the pre-literate peoples of the Americas. No writing, no philosophy.
