"The people from rich countries who look down upon poor people in Ghana or India don’t care that most of the world is poor."

I think that most Americans' contact with people who are from India is in the form of a doctor/patient relationship since a large proportion of doctors and dentists here are from the Subcontinent. Those folks who don't read National Geographic or haven't traveled widely would probably consider Indians to be from a land of successful, well educated people.
