The part about utopia being unachievable without everyone getting onboard is something that many progressives don't have a firm handle on I believe, or they wouldn't be progressives. That collectivist schemes on a national level historically required the population to be kept in a state of fear, concentration camps, snitches, secret police, and unmarked graves, because they had to, hasn't dawned on them. Or they are power mad sadists that want to see that kind of world with them wielding the whip.
