That simply isn't true. The Italians ended slavery in Ethiopia and built a remarkable amount of modern infrastructure including 900 km of railroads and 4,500 km of roads in the short time they were there. Mussolini invited La Corbusier to design the capital, and the Italians introduced pasta into Ethiopian cuisine.

Italy continues to be a leading trade partner of Ethiopia, and an Italian company Webuild SpA is building the massive Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Nile as a result of a no-bid contract.

Emperor Menilek II sold neighboring Eritrea to Italy for weapons and cash in 1889, and that country is heavily influenced by Italy, but they were there for 60 years.
