The most famous and numerous Nguni tribe in Southern Africa are the Zulu, and mighty King Shaka was their most famous ruler. Before they were defeated with the Maxim Gun after giving the British Empire a bloody nose, the Zulu were highly organized, highly disciplined warriors who crushed or displaced every other tribe in their path. A Zulu man could not have sex with a woman until he had dipped his Assegai in an enemy's blood, and as the Zulu armies rampaged they killed the men and married the women. The Zulu were totally badass, and one of the most militarized societies in history. They made the Spartans look like Girl Scouts.

So this ubuntu thing is a recent development I guess. Maybe it will work on South Africa's super high crime rate.
