The majority of Sri Lankans are Sinhalese Buddhists, like the linked Indi, but there is a sizable Tamil Hindu minority who fought a horrible civil war against the government of Sri Lanka that only ended when the Sinhalese absolutely crushed the Tamils in a ruthless military campaign in 2009, killing their leadership. The political leadership of Sri Lanka now were the victorious military commanders in that war. That the Tamils are Hindus and so is India makes anything that India does with Sri Lanka problematic. That you didn't mention any of this does in fact show that no one is paying attention to Sri Lanka.

You also didn't mention that President Rajapaksa instituted one of the stupidest government policies in history in 2019 when he told the farmers of what is a predominently agricultural economy that they had to grow everything organically, something which none of them were trained to do, and of course they were using fertilizer and pesticides for good reasons. The 2021 rice harvest failed, and of course harvests in everything else including tea were drastically reduced. So much of the present crisis is self inflicted, and even if new leadership appears they will have so little to work with.
