The idea that states are going to separate from each other in the near future is ridiculous. In the 2020 election, Trump got 38% of the vote in New York state, and 35% in California. In Pennsylvania, virtually eveyone outside of Philly and Pittsburgh is a Republican or further right. I don't think those people, and many Democrats, are going to want to join some other country, lead by who exactly? What do the 1/3 of the people who don't vote get out of seccession other than having their lives totally disturbed? Politics might be that important to you and the people reading speculative political articles online, but it simply isn't that important to enough people to make this scenario happen.

Look at Scotland. Years and years of well supported agitation for independence including Sean Connery, and they just can't seal the deal. They are still part of the UK.
