The description of the male models at the Gucci fashion show reminded me of an event I watched online this past summer. There were all of these really skinny men with sunken cheeks and chests and arms like twigs dressed in these ridiculous particolored lycra shorts and little tops with plastic hats and fashion forward sunglasses. They even wore cute fingerless gloves. The only real difference is that they all had legs like gnarled tree trunks. The event was called the “Tour de France”, and these little stick men were riding 10,000 dollar carbon fiber bicycles 200 K through the Alps every day. They hit 50 mph on a ten pound bicycle going down the mountains, but what is really impressive is when they are racing up the mountains. The event is its own kind of masterpiece, which is why it has been going on for almost 120 years.
