The book Factotum was made into an excellent movie with Matt Dillon as Henry Chianski. Charles Bukowski went totally Hollywood after he hit it big. He even wrote a book about all of the young women that slept with him because he was famous. So he was actually dreaming about something beyond those shitty jobs he wrote about, and that dream came true. The difference between then and now is that someone like Buk could be a total dick, and people didn't care because he made good art.
