The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is a superb Western. Can't sing its praises high enough. John Fords cavalry triology of Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and Rio Grande are especially meaningful to anyone who has been a soldier. Post modern Dead Man by Jim Jarmusch is interesting, and it has Robert Mitchum's last appearance. The Great Silence by Segio Corbucci is a strange one set in the snow that stars Klaus Kinski, but it's an acknowledged classic. Technically a Civil War movie, Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil is more a Western stuck in the Civil War, like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Such a great film. It involves Confederate Bushwackers, like the James Gang, Rooster Cogburn, and Josey Wales.
