Thanks for your thoughtful reply. We could apply the same thing to marinas and boats. Are we going to punish people with bass boats because some people have yachts? The idea that people should be charged more based on their income is unworkable and unfair. When you are transacting business with someone, your income is none of their business unless they are loaning you money. Wealthier people already pay more anyway. If a wealthy person has a hangar for a business jet, it will have to be much larger and include specialized equipment and technicians that someone who has a two seater Cessna doesn’t need.

All of a sudden people are so worried about how much money other people make. I have never asked anyone, including friends, family, and my children, about their financial situation. It’s rude, and there is no reason for me to know. But now strangers’ wealth is our concern? None of them owe ME money. I try to do the best with what I have.
