Presently the means of production are privately owned. How do you get to where they are owned collectively without an authoritarian/totalitarian centrally planned dictatorship? If people have choices, they will do whatever benefits them as individuals, not the collective. They are not going to give up their wealth, property, or privilege without a gun being held on them, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron. All of the socialist states worked the shitshow way they did because they had to. Your socialist society can't work unless everyone plays along, and they are not going to unless they are forced to. The whole thing is predicated on coercing people into behaving in a certain way, or rubbing them out.
