People with house plants generally have neater, better organized homes than people who do not. You can't put plants in a random spot, and they require regular attention. Having fresh herbs growing in little pots is fun, as is growing a little pot in a planter by the window. Set it next to a big geranium, an excellent indoor flowering plant by the way, and it will just look like another houseplant from outside.

And by the way, there is no such thing as a "black thumb" with plants or gardening as many claim. The word is "laziness".
