Okay, meritocracy isn't fair, just like the rest of life incidentally. But what is the alternative? When you remove meritocracy from any organized activity, what can you replace it with to determine leadership roles and compensation? It will be replaced by non-official metrics like family connections, who is sleeping with who, and those who are the biggest syncophants to the big boss. Those factors are certainly in play now, but without meritocracy through some kind of measurement like testing or earned credentials, that is all there is since humans act that way. And that is when you end up with complete incompetents running everything since it is easer to be a syncophant than it is a real expert supervising a project. The idea that people will change right along with systemic change is ridiculous, and not based on any kind of reality actually observed in communist countries that tried it.
