Non drinker here, but I have to say that I detect a lot of paternalism in this article. A liquor store can't stay open unless there is a market for what they are selling, regardless of the socio-economic nature of the neighborhood. If poor or minority people want to have a few pops to make their lives a bit more bearable, who the hell are we to tell them not to? People that that can legally buy alcohol are not children. They don't need their hand held just because they are in a designated victim identity, unless you think you're better than they are.
