Napoleon is a horrible example of treatment for Putin, because during his first exile in Elba he returned to France with a handful of men, otherthrew the Bourbons, and then went on to fight at Waterloo. Then his second exile at St. Helena, which in those days might as well have been on the Moon.

The Ukranians have to be ready to give up most of the territory that the Russians have taken for this war to end. They are both digging in, spreading countless landmines, and siting in artillery for defence. It is returning to the static trench warfare that has been going on in Donbass since 2014. The Russians hold 20% of Ukraine according to Zelensky, and they don't need as many troops to defend it as they did to take it. They paid dearly for that land bridge to Crimea, and they would make Ukraine pay more dearly than they could bear to take it back. It would be best for everyone involved if the fighting stopped as soon as possible, because now it is moving into the WW I style meat grinder phase.
