Most of primeval Pennsylvania forests, primarily consisted of White Pine, Eastern Hemlock, and American Beech. Now there is a lot of maple, black cherry, and other hardwoods, so there is actually more variety now because people planted trees that were more valuble. Deer love acorns, so oaks were heavily planted throughout the state.
There are still wildfires in Pennsylvania, usually caused by knuckleheads, but absolutely nothing like in California. Long ago, local people used to start forest fires so land owners would pay them to put them out. Most fire towers have been abandoned, except for those being rented out as Airbnb. Pennsylvania has actually built a few new towers recently because Harrisburg loves to spend money.
I live in Pittsburgh, and we have a 42% forest cover here with a huge variety of trees because most of them are decorative.
