Most good artists don't die broke. All of the well known abstract expressionist and pop artists from the 1960s became quite wealthy. Andy Warhol's estate may have been worth $600M when he died. Norman Rockwell was worth tens of millions when he died. Even a hack like Thomas Kinkade made 53 million bucks from his art because he sold it in a profitable way. Of course I am talking about real money here, and real art.
