Modern gentlemen believe that women are equal to men, and that they don't need special protection. We can't have true gender equality until women are just as responsible for their own safety as men are, and the police are now a cellphone button push away in the developed world. In the USA it is super easy to acquire and carry a handgun as well. That's a real equalizer.

The figures many not be very encouraging, but in places where women really are in danger all the time they don't count those things. In Afghanistan, women have been covered up again by their new "guardians".
