Limiting government controls is the antithesis of autocracy. I know leftists can't quite wrap their heads around that because they never saw a government regulation and regulatory agency they didn't love. Anyone who supports federalism and the division of powers by the national, state, and local governments is against autocracy. Anyone who seeks to limit the regulatory and confisticatory power of the state is against autocracy. If you give more powers to regulate people's lives to the national government, you're on the track to autocracy. Just because people are in the government doesn't make them any less self-interested than those who are outside of it.
No matter how much wealth someone may accumulate they can't send armed cops to your home to make you do something like a government official can. They have to pay you or give you something you want to make you do anything.
