"It’s a good reminder that we must continually police ourselves and those around us."

Policing the others around them is exactly why these men were on trial. They created a "police state". Not mindlesslessly obeying others or trying to force the state's will on them is how all of this is avoided. Will that make for a somewhat chaotic society? Yes, but it's not one that is likely to try to conquer the world or create death camps and millions of slave laborers. For that you need a collective willingness of the whole population to get with the program.

None of these men did the dirty work by the way. All they did was sign papers. Common people did the actual murdering at their behest. If all government and political leaders are held in contempt, the Holocaust can't happen.
