In the case of the American and other Allied forces being “the saviors”, in this case they actually were, as they were in Europe at the same time. The Japanese started the war and overran everything from the Aleutians to Australia, treating the population of every single place they conquered with immense cruelty. I think it’s possible to talk about this cultural aquisition business without denigrating the truly great efforts and sacrifices made by the US and other Allied forces by calling them “conquerers”. They weren’t. They removed the Imperial Japanese from where they didn’t belong and went home. I actually have a substantial collection of ceramic Tiki mugs, a whole wacky cultural trend that US GIs picked up in Polynesia, and ironically the best and most collectable ones were made in Japan. After Japan’s heavy industry had been bombed flat by the USAAF, they had to make something lo-tech to export when the war ended, so they turned to their ancient craft of making exquisite ceramics to create weird mugs for Caribbean rum cocktails to serve with Chinese food in faux Polynesian restaurants in the USA. That’s the beauty of shared culture. If all you are looking for is ugliness, you can find it in anything and anybody.
