I'm a person that almost always travels by bicycle or public transpo, and I took a look at the Shawnee Park neighborhood on Google Earth. It's rideable, you just have to stay on the sidewalk in some spots. Somehow I doubt that there are throngs of pedestrians to contend with. There's only one place to cross the major highway, just like the cars. I LOVE bike lanes, but I'll find a safe way to ride almost anywhere.
Two other factors that have to be considered for regular bike usage in any place are the weather and topography. Slogging up a steep grade in a snow storm to get to work is only for hammer heads, right?
