Ilyassah Shabazz, the third daughter of Malcolm X, gave a well attended lecture recently in my city. A friend of mine went to the event and raved about what a beautiful, intelligent, and gracious person she was. They were obviously inspired by her talk. Dr. Shabazz is a published author, an activist, and a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Life goes on through the people, not the places.

By the way, I’ve been a frequent visitor to the Big Apple over the course of my life, and even rode a bicycle through Harlem in the 5 Boros Bike Tour last May. I’ve been listening to New Yorkers bemoan the changes to the city, absolutely any part of the city, since the 1970s.
