If the American Medical Association wanted socialized medicine, we would have it tomorrow. Doctors would much rather hand the payer a bill than get a paycheck from the government, and only a naive person would think that their generous compensation is not a major factor in how the system works. Yes, it’s operating as a business and doctors are calling the shots because they ultimately sign off on every medicine and procedure. They run the lisencing and the med schools. It’s the most well paid profession in the country.

Who is going to clean the toilets, wash the dishes, and dig the ditches? Janitorial work is really unessessary, since everyone could just clean up after themselves and take turns emptying the trash, but they don’t and won’t. I’ve waited tables in restaurants and I can’t think of a worse job, but don’t tell me that socialism is going to eliminate restaurants. Who wants that? Nobody sat down and invented capitalism. Smith and Marx just described it. Things work they way they do for reasons related to human nature, which is not malleable. If you want major changes, as always it will require brute force to make them.
