I was a high school teacher for over twenty years because I really like history, and most jobs that deal with history involve teaching in some form or fashion. While I was teaching I worked with artists who taught art, musicians who taught music, actors who taught drama, writers who taught English, STEM people that taught STEM, and athletes who taught gym and coached. You've got to make a living, and if you have a passion for something it's at least nice to share it with other people over the course of a work day rather than do something totally unrelated.

This essay reminds me of all the students I taught who said they were going to become professional musicians or athletes. When a little kid says that it's cute, but when a teenager who obviously doesn't have the talent to do either of those things says it, it's pathetic. I actually taught a couple of students who became pro athletes and musicians, but they didn't talk about it, they just practiced.
