I see people asking for help all the time on the highway bridges and ramps into the city. They have a sign that says exactly the kind of help they want, which is cash money. I have volunteered in food banks and no one wore a disguise to pick up their bags. I have worked on Habitat for Humanity builds, and people not only asked for a house, but went through a long vetting and working process before they could get one of the better than market houses that Habitat builds. If people really need help, they can ask for it.
Personally I prefer truth to virtue signalling by the way, so excuse my callousness. Pretending that things aren't what they are to make ourselves look kind or holy or woke or whatever is not the solution to anything but self esteem issues.
