I looked up The White Lotus television show, and apparently the critics like the fictional depiction of wealthy people. But there has never been an airing of the show that attracted a million people. Typically each airing has attracted around a half million people. Of course that is out of over 310,000,000. But as you say, there are many other ways Americans can get their fix of the lifestyles of the rich and famous.
I am a huge fan of the Architectural Digest videos about people's houses on Youtube. I worked installing and repairing plumbing in some amazing custom homes in the Washington DC area. The master plumber that trained me for residental plumbing is a multi-millionaire. So I can appreciate the work that was done to put together these palaces, and I am also an art lover so I can appreciate the art and design. Some of the plumbing fixtures in the kitchen, bath, and bar just take my breath away. But to have to clean all of that? It would be like living in a musem. I'd be afraid to have a party, but I would love to be invited to one.
A couple of my favorite episodes were the gorgeous homes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Kasey Musgraves. They both have good taste and seem like very nice people. They both graciously name checked all of the designers, builders, and artists that contributed to their crib. I listen to Kasey on occaision, but I don't obsess over her or Gwyneth because there is a lot of other stuff to consider. Am I supposed to dislike these people, or wish that their lives were worse than they are somehow? Do they owe something to somebody, beyond all of the people that count on them to make a living of course? That there are wealthy people in literally every country in the whole wide world would indicate that it is an element of human nature, and thus immutable.
I'm in a class of my own by the way, just like everyone else.
