I live in Pittsburgh, PA and we actually have a Town Square dahntahn, called Market Square, and it has been there since the 18th Century. There are political rallies, music, a big Christmas Market, Juneteenth, amatuer performers, buskers, old men playing chess, giant games for kids, Bike Pgh. events, Steeler pep rallies, and people drive tricked out vehicles around the perimeter. It is surrounded by bars and restaurants including a Primanti's. In the winter PPG Plaza next door is a free skating rink. It is a clean and safe place, but some interesting people hang out there, even furries.

Of course most of the funding for the many free cultural and fun events that happen in Market Square come from the big corporations in the city. If you want a portable bandstand and a good PA system set up for a peformance, they'll set it up for you, but it will come with their branding. That's because everything costs money, and when technicians set equipment like that up they need to be paid and corporations have money.

But here's the thing about that wonderful square. You have to go there to get any benefit from it whatsover. Sitting at a keypad whining about the lack of something you are not even looking for will not solve your problem. If you go out and about, you will find Town Squares all over town, at the coffee shop, or dog park, or library, or at local government, or volunteers picking up litter. If you cannot find anyone in your community to talk to in real life, it's completely your own fault unless you are disabled somehow. If you sit at home worrying about all of this shit that has nothing to do with you, your life will be miserable.
