I just got back from a bike packing trip in the forest with a group of younger friends. It was so much fun, and one of the reasons everyone had a good time was that no one had any problems with their bicycles or other gear that they couldn't take care of themselves. Most of the riders had actually built their own bicycles, and all were experienced campers. There was playing and fishing in the beautiful river, cooking over the fire, frisbee, some partying, storytelling, and a lot of quality bike riding.
When individualists get together, no one's fun is interupted because some feeb doesn't have their shit together. There's no drama. If they are learning a new thing and need help, beautiful. But eventually they need to become an equal, and take care of themself.
