I have worked for a community garden that contributed to a CSA program. Gardening at that level is a hobby, and the produce members get is a nice seasonal supplement to their regular supermarket diet, nothing more. Producing food, particularly at scale, is really difficult, and people actually go to agricultural universities to learn how to do it.
