I have done a lot of home repair and remodeling work, and older homes and apartments are often more solidly built than more modern homes, at least if they belonged to proper bougie people. Industrial and agricultural workers back in the day tended to live in simple shacks, which have disappeared.

For example, new homes have plumbing made out of flimsy plastic PEX water pipe and PVC drains, whereas older houses have solid lead drains and water pipe, or copper water lines soldered with lead, and cast iron drains sealed with lead. So those older building have lots of sturdy lead in them, even in the paint!

Nowadays for insulation on pipes, they have fiberglass or this light cheesy foam stuff, whereas in older houses they have solid and effective asbestos insulation all over everything. They even used to make house siding out of that stuff. It's fireproof, but the knob and tube wiring is not. Those old stone or concrete basements weren't tested for radon when they built it since they didn't know what it was, but they are mighty solid.

So if your old house doesn't kill you, you can enjoy those special features like drafty single pane windows, lack of central air, cracking plaster, and no access should someone with a disability come by.
