I have a pretty simple philosophy that guides my behavior with other people: Don’t try to hurt me or take my stuff, and I’ll leave you alone to do whatever you like. I also try to be polite and honest with everyone I encounter, but that’s just a personal preference. No one is ever going to be on the same page as far as a value system goes, and that’s fine since we live in a free society. Take the professors from the faculty of any philosophy department at any college and they will all espouse wildly different value systems, so the mere study of philosophy doesn’t put everyone in the same place as far as values go. When there is a madatory value system that everyone has to abide by, that’s called a “totalitarian society” since a greater power like the government would have to maintain that value system by forcibly keeping other philosophies out of the picture. I’d pick up a gun to fight that.
