After the terrible Nigerian Civil War and subsequent famine in the 1960s, Igbos who had formed the breakaway state of Biafra found that they had limited opportunities in Nigeria, so many have immigrated to the USA. Their population in the states is estimated at around 200,000 people, and the largest single Igbo community is in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Ironically most of the more recent Igbo immigrants flew here on an airliner.
