I assume that you are in Australia because of the AFL (Australian Football League) reference. I generally don't see people grouping up by gender at a social gathering in the USA. Conversations are usually one on one or small mixed groups. I see many bachelorette parties in my city though, and they are 100% loud drunk women wearing sashes and waving rubber sex toys. We have floating tiki bars on our rivers that are used by these posses, and I keep waiting for one of those tipsy tootsies to end up in the drink.
