Utter hogwash, and I say it as someone who was there. First of all, the true punk scene didn’t begin until the mid-1970s, and it was in part a reaction to the hippy dippy lovey dovey nonsense of the 1960s. The article you link to here is about clothes, not causes. The whole point of punk was to keep things small and local, to be as loosely organized as possible, and to do everything yourself. Other than being against authority, including the authority of the peace sign wearing mob incidentally, it had nothing to do with politics, social justice, or any of that bullshit.
