Everyone has their own problems to deal with now, so get in line. When the news from a place is relentlessly bad, people are going to give up on it eventually. “Detroit” and “dysfunctional” have become synonomous with each other. When the citizens of a city randomly set fire to buildings as a regular event, other people are going to start wondering why anyone sane would live there. I understand that Devil’s Night hasn’t been so bad in recent years, but that’s when you lost most people’s interest without even considering the other crime. It’s hard to think of something more self defeating than that.
